![]() ![]() “I realized after awhile and talking to my wife, it was time to chase my dream,” Limjoco said. He worked as an account executive for JP Morgan Chase for 10 years but his mind never strayed far from the kitchen. He set aside his passion for cooking and focused on his business career, to make a living for his wife and children. “It was the best, most creative time of my life,” Limjoco said. He worked everywhere in the restaurant industry from line cook to front of the house. Limjoco’s love of flavor and food started when he was in business school at Tulane University. “I think this is an area where people know their flavors really well,” he said. He said besides being blown away by the view, he chose the intersection of Del Mar, Carmel Valley and Rancho Santa Fe for his latest restaurant venture because it’s a great foodie area. “It’s unpretentious, approachable food brought to another level,” Limjoco said. You’ll find dressed-up pizzas, burgers and mac ‘n’ cheeses on the menu along with 55 craft beers on tap and 27 premium wines by the glass. Limjoco is a self-glossed “flavor hound” who has created a unique menu offering gourmet comfort food with an emphasis on local, fresh, high-quality ingredients. The new restaurant from James Limjoco of Sublime Ale House in San Marcos opens Wednesday, July 10, on the top level of the Polo Plaza on Via de la Valle, with a long patio view that looks out onto the San Diego Polo Club fields and stretches to the sea. That being said, the price of on-tap imported Belgian beers is shockingly overpriced.Foodies, craft beer and wine lovers have a new local spot to frequent with the new Sublime Tavern. ![]() Typical San Diego pub prices, and the local beers on tap are very reasonably priced. and everything I've had has been quite good. The food is salt-of-the earth, comfort food: pizzas, macaroni and cheese, burgers, etc. The bottle list is acceptable, though still somewhat meager-though it's not updated frequently enough, so just because a beer is on the list doesn't mean it exists in house. There are always plenty of fresh, local IPAs on tap at good, competitive prices, along with other interesting domestic crafts, and a handful of Belgians. The selection is decent, and probably about as good as can be expected from a brand new beer bar. When at the bar with a friend once, he must have waited at least 8-10 minutes with an empty glass of Sculpin before he was asked if he'd like another. On two other, separate, instances, I've sat at the bar, and both times the service has been slow and impersonal. samples and talk shop, all while I'm left looking at the bottom of an empty glass. I have been the only one at the bar, with an empty glass, waiting to order another round, while the 3 bartenders pour each other multiple 1oz. The service is, in a word, poor, and is truly the area where Sublime Ale House is most lacking. The local offerings are fresh and delicious, the Belgians are spot-on, and the food is tasty and interesting. The place is very shiny and brand new, and even a bit staunch and clinical. The space consists of a square, metal bar, picnic table style seating, and indoor and outdoor dining with waitstaff service. Sublime Ale House is a new beer bar in the San Marcos area, doing its best to take advantage of the craft beer mecca that North County San Diego has become. ![]()
